Since I got sick last month, I have been finding it hard to get back into the gym. Friday was only my second time this year. I know, appalling.

Honestly this has been a really busy month, much more hectic than I expected so I haven’t been keeping all my appointments. But I made it back again on Sunday, despite my DOMS. Lost a fair bit of muscle in my off month so we are starting everything light again. 180 lbs on the leg press, 70 lbs on squat rack. My lack of exercise shocked Allan so, he even put me on the treadmill for a while yesterday.

Training yesterday was innnnntense. I hit personal records with the leg press(360lbs ie four big plates each side) and deadlift (50 lbs). In the last week we also upped weighted lunges and compound dumbbell squat from 10lbs to 15 lbs each side. I think I might have muttered “I hate you” to Allan a couple of times but he remained unmoved.

Anyway after that it was an hour on the cross trainer with heart rate between 150 and 170. So this morning I am feeling it all over. All over. But it’s a great feeling and I’m happy to get DOMS at least once a week.

Gains have been good, he says I’m 70% stronger from August when I first started with him. But he keeps insisting I don’t give him 100%, which is a totally unfair characterization of my commitment. The gym is after all like my third home after the office. I’m such a familiar face that most of the other trainers know whose client I am (including a couple who’ve asked him if I’m single!) I’m even thinking about getting a permanent locker.

i nearly died at the gym this morning. i don’t know whether it’s because it’s that time of the month and i was just feeling super lethargic or because i haven’t fully gotten back into my exercise routine after my holiday. But after every set i just wanted to sit down and not get up. At one point I felt nauseous and so ass-whooped that I even stopped complaining. I think that was my trainer’s cue that I was really not up to an ‘intense’ session today and he let me off easy on some of the circuits.
