December 25, 2007I had a great Christmas Eve. Got home this morning at the crack of dawn, busied myself with chores and gift-wrapping before succumbing to lethargy and napped for over three hours in the afternoon. I was so tired that I had no appetite the whole day.
Before dinner, while I was carolling, mr bossman patiently waited and occupied himself with Sudoku and two glasses of wine that cost $64. ‘Tis the season i guess.
He had booked a table at La Strada at Shaw Centre. I only vaguely remember that it used to be Les Amis some time ago but this is a new establishment under the same group with a new open-concept look. It looked elegant yet cosy.
Tonight’s menu was a special six course affair, all with fancy names and even fancier presentation. Mini tortellinis in broth, French-roasted duckling, red fish mullet and for dessert, a panettone with cured plums. My favourite dish was the squid ink pasta. This was potent stuff. We ended up with ghoulish looking tongues and black lipstick ala Edward Scissorhands. I was trying to see if the other patrons had the same goth looks but everyone else looked normal. Tsk. But i loved it. It tasted very wholesome, and there was a hint of spice in the aftertaste as well. By the end of the evening I was really quite stuffed and couldn’t finish my dessert nor the wine that accompanied it. All in all a very good experience.
I don’t think i’ve had such an enjoyable Christmas Eve in quite a while. Hope everyone had a great time as well.
